Cottage reunites owner with homing pigeon after a year of going missing!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Moor Cottage Vets reunite a lost homing pigeon with its Polish owner more than a year after it had gone missing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The poor pigeon was exhausted and dehydrated when handed in at Moor Cottage Veterinary Practice in Bracknell, Berkshire, by a member of the public.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He was rehydrated and given pain relief, while Moor Cottage clinical director Karolina Pionk began a determined search to track down its owner.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1139 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bracknellvets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/lech-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"moor cottage in bracknell data-contrast=\"auto\">Karolina explained: \u201cThe pigeon had identification rings on his leg which revealed he was from somewhere in Poland.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cUnfortunately, the owner\u2019s contact details were not legible, so we contacted the Royal Racing Pigeon Association in the UK for help.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThey gave us a contact number for the Polish Racing Pigeon Association and, as I am Polish myself, I began trying to get in touch.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe also went onto the Polish website to determine which area of the country the pigeon was from.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cBy this time, we had christened him \u2018Lech\u2019 after a character in a Polish folk story.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cArmed with all this information, I started to make calls and I was finally able to speak to the correct division in Poland who said they could trace the owner from one of the codes on the ring.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI left them my private mobile number to enable the owner to get in touch with me, although nothing happened for a while.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThen, after we had almost given up hope, I received a phone call from an unknown Polish number and the great news was that it was \u2018Lech\u2019s\u2019 Polish owner!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cHe was very surprised to learn Lech was alive and well, as he had gone missing more than a year beforehand.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;The owner quickly contacted a friend of his, who lives in London, to organise the collection of Lech from our clinic.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cHis friend then travelled by car to Poland a few days later and the owner and Lech were happily reunited.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Owner Adam Jakubas<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">was thrilled to have his bird back at home in Poland and was full of praise at the dedication we went through to find the owner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He said: \u201cI was overwhelmed with the dedication of Karolina and the team at Moor Cottage who showed such concern and love for Lech.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI am extremely impressed with the amount of effort they
